Is Elimination Communication Safe?

EC is safe when it stays noncoercive — assisting, not forcing.

Elimination communication is safe when it is gentle and noncoercive. Babies are born able to be assisted with elimination; you offer opportunities based on timing and signals without punishment or force. Most families use nappy backup while learning.
You do not need to wait for a long “readiness” window before offering potty chances. Waiting years in full-time nappies and then pushing hard is a different approach — EC starts earlier and kinder.
If you have medical concerns for you or baby, talk with your health professional. EC should never hurt, scare, or coerce.
